How it began

A restaurant first, then a place to stay

Munshi’s started as a restaurant on the Srinagar–Gulmarg Road, and the rooms came later, once regular travellers started asking if they could just stay the night instead of driving back down to Srinagar.

We’re still run that way — a family business, not a chain, with the kitchen as much a part of our identity as the rooms upstairs.

Why guests stop here

A convenient base for Gulmarg

Most guests are here for one of two reasons — heading up to Gulmarg for the skiing, the Gondola, or the meadows in summer, or just passing through and wanting a proper meal and a decent bed before continuing on.

Either way, we try to make the stop count: a hot meal after a long drive, a heater that actually works, and staff who know this road well enough to tell you what to expect.

Guests usually remember the food more than anything else — Wazwan dishes like Rogan Josh and Gushtaba, cooked the traditional way, served in our in-house restaurant to guests and travellers alike.
